Last night I made a batch of Salted Caramel sauce to go with some Brown Sugar Blondies, which are a packet mix from Woolworths. This is our dessert for our New Year’s Family Dinner.
I didn’t want to do 2 posts in one day so I saved it for today (as you are reading this I am most probably watching the Brisbane Heat play the Sydney Sixes at the Gabba for the KFC T20 comp).
I have had the packet mix for a little while and figured it would be a good opportunity to use it up and easy too as Mum has been doing some other food prep (we are having Quiche and Summer Pasta which is amazing!) To jazz it up a little I thought that a salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream would go amazingly!
Now I think I have written before about my very bad luck with Caramel bc it just never works. Today was really no different. It didn’t help that I didn’t read all of the method before I Corn Syrup on the stove and put the sugar in it. This recipe comes from over at All Things Target. I put all the ingredients in and eventually it turned out ok, which is all I can ask for. Next time I will be sure to read and follow the directions to the tee and see how it turns out 🙂
New Year Dessert with Salted Caramel Sauce
Happy New Year Everyone!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
I hope yo had an amazing time at your parties and hanging out with friends and family. I watched the fireworks on TV at home with a few beers and went to bed at 12:15. Its a sad life I lead, but I had had an amazing lunch with my school friends earlier that day and didn’t really mind. The fireworks on Sydney harbour were again amazing, and much better on the TV if you ask me. The Mambo eye was the symbol on the bridge and the main art designer Reg Mombassa seemed quite drunk and out of it when he and the Sydney Mayor, Clover Moore (yes that is really her name) hit the button to start the fireworks at Midnight.
I finished off the year with a small pinterest project, Mac and Cheese. I got my parents tickets to the Brisbane International Tennis and their tickets were for yesterday. They were luck enough to be able to see Serena Williams play singles and Roger Federer play in the mens doubles straight after. Go me!
I made myseld a small portion of this recipe of Mac and Cheese that links over to Kevin and Amanda’s Recipes. It was a great recipe to make just a small portion. I think next time I will put more cheese and milk in it but it worked a treat!
My Photo hasn’t come through yet so I will put it in when it has.
This is my tiny bowl of Mac and Cheese
I hope you all have an amazing 2014 and continue to follow my journey though Pinterest. My resolution for 2014 is the same as last year, be more decisive and to try to post most days on my blog.
So on day 2 of the new year I have been pretty successful in posting nearly every day 🙂 YAY ME!
My family generally has dinner together on New Years day and last night was no different. We had the usual roast lamb and veggies with homemade apple pie for dessert. Now while Mum took care of the food side of things, I made us all a refreshing drink. Its called 24-carat Christmas. Now I know you are thinking ‘But its not Christmas!’. Well that never stops me making an amazing drink.
I first had this drink 12 months ago for Christmas day last year. It went over a treat. the combination of the green ginger beer and the hazelnut of the Frangelico make quite a refreshing taste. And even though the sound of it is gross, I highly recommend it! Especially on a hot summers day.
I forgot to take a photo of it but it looks just like it does in the picture of the website.
So while this New Years Eve won’t find me watching the ball drop in Times Square (which I would dearly love to do), or partying up a storm in the CBD of my amazing town, or even just going to watch the fireworks over the river, it will find me creating a pinterest inspired craft/New Years resolution.
Speaking of resolutions….My sister gave a great idea when she told me hers. Most people make resolutions that revolve around losing weight, working out more, drinking less, shopping/spending less blah blah blah. While these are all great resolutions, they are not really me (or my sister for that fact). My sister has decided that something she resolves to do in 2013 is to be more decisive, which is something that I am rubbish at as well (must run in the family). I think that next year I should try to be more decisive, keep my office tidier, and try to blog at least every day about my travels through Pinterest.
So back to my NYE inspired Pinterest creation!
I have made a Memories Jar for 2013. I have seen a few around, but I think that this website has the best instructions and ideas. I like the idea of using tags, and the fact that the jar they have used is big enough to put the pencil in, but I can deal with that.
So I grabbed this Moccona jar (its sooo handy to have a stash of them around the house) and took the label off and cleaned the left over label gunk off it.
So now for stage 2.
I bought some stickers and transfers from the discount store to put on. I went for some glittery numbers and some lace looking transfers. I put 2013 in the middle, as you would expect, and then 2 stripes of the lace transfers around the top and the bottom. I think it came out looking not too bad, if I do say so myself! Here is a picture of the stickers and transfers as well as the final product.
I have a feeling that maybe I should start with the craziness that is our house for New Years Eve tonight. Everyone has lost the plot!
So far so good (theoretically) for making a post everyday! YAY me!
